Thousand Hours Challenge- Thanks

The Thousand Hours Challenge finished in the Phoenix Park last Saturday when over 4,500 people took part in the 5k and 10k walk and run which was led by well known singer and TV personality Bressie. The only TD who took part on the day was myself. The Thousand Hours Challenge has been going on for the past eight weeks and thousands of people around the country, and hundreds of people in the local region have been getting out in the fresh air to walk and run and get together for improved physical and mental health every week at different locations.

I want to thank a number of people and businesses who have helped out with the Thousand Hours Challenge in this area. “I want to thank all those who helped us out with this initiative. Gerry and Rosaleen Hussey were a fantastic assistance throughout, and also all the businesses that helped out in the various locations including Divilly’s in Glenamaddy, The Athlone Springs Hotel, The Shearwater Hotel Ballinasloe, Fallon’s in Ballygar, Cryan’s in Carrick on Shannon, Gleeson’s in Roscommon and Hester’s in Castlerea. In all the weeks that we were walking the weather only beat us on one occasion. I also want to thank Marcella Gemmell and Marty Ward for all the work they did in the back round, and all the people who turned up at the various locations to walk and run and to take part in this very worthwhile event and I also want to thank my own family who were also a great help to me throughout the time of the challenge as well”
