It has been brought to my attention in recent weeks that a situation exists in Roscommon town whereby there is no designated taxi rank at the town’s railway station. I understand that as a result of there being no designated taxi rank, people visiting the town on business or for hospital appointments and so on, have to either make arrangements ahead of time or when they arrive, to get a taxi.
The situation for visitors, particularly for tourists and elderly people, many of whom would not have knowledge of the locality or who the local taxi operators are, this could create a problem. In order to make life a bit simpler for people visiting Roscommon town by train, I am calling on the National Transport Authority to designate a Taxi rank at Roscommon Railway Station. I will continue to lobby the relative authorities on this matter into the future.
