Taoiseach Can Stop South Roscommon Proposal

By February 4, 2016No Comments

The Taoiseach has it in his gift to put a stop to the proposal to take a piece of South Roscommon and put it into Westmeath and it can be done before the election” That was what I said at Leaders Questions in The Dail today (Tuesday). “People in Roscommon are very concerned that this proposal will happen and the level of anger about this proposal in the county is evidenced by the fact that 30,000 submissions have been received by Westmeath County Council on the matter from Roscommon alone. There is huge public concern in Roscommon about this. The Taoiseach says that the findings of the boundary commission are not binding, which is welcome however there is still a suspicion in Roscommon that this proposal might be slipped through. A definitive statement informing the public that the proposal is being abandoned is what we need at this stage.
