School Bus Plan Will Be Resisted

The news that one in five students who are using the school bus system at the moment could lose their seats because of a proposal from the Department of Education to reduce the size of school busses being used by Bus Eireann must be resisted as it would have a huge detrimental effect on rural Ireland in particular.
This cost cutting proposal would have serious implications for children in rural Ireland who have concessionary school bus tickets at the moment and I will be seeking an early meeting with my former Independent Alliance colleague John Halligan who is the Minister now responsible for this review. Transport to schools in many rural areas is difficult enough without more obstacles being put in the way of children attending schools and this is a matter that I will be pursuing immediately.
