The news today that planning permission for the Edenderry power plant has been granted by An Bord Pleranala until 2023 is very good news for hundreds of jobs in the Midlands and West and it will bring certainty to many families who were fearful that the decision might have gone the other way.
I warmly welcome today’s news that planning permission for the Edenderry power plant has been granted to 2023 by An Bord Pleanala. This decision is also good news for the power plants at Lanesboro and Shannonbridge and the 1,500 jobs in the three plants. The families of these people now have certainty and it will allow breathing space for Bord Na Mona to put it’s development plans for the future in place.
I will be looking closely at the terms and conditions of this decision to ensure that there are no surprises or catches therin, and I also hope that An Taisce respects this decision and that the Edenderry plant and those in Lanesboro and Shannonbridge can now proceed in operation as before. I am a firm believer that some of these so called environmental organisations should not be funded by the taxpayer to allow them to be taking these very expensive cases into the High Court and that a review of the funding of these groups should take place.
But this decision is good news for all concerned two days before Christmas.
