I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister for Health Simon Harris to clear up the situation with regard to the 8 million Euro Rehab unit proposed for Roscommon County Hospital. A local consultant is claiming this week that the funding for the unit has been pulled. The need for this facility at Roscommon has been pointed out many times in the past and the commitment was made by the previous administration. The decision to fund this unit is a political decision and i will strongly resist any attempt to withdraw this funding. The unit would be a huge addition to Roscommon county hospital in terms of employment and would also be a major boost to the families of patients from the west of the country who would not have to travel to Dun Laoighre to visit their loved ones. I will be contacting Minister Harris at the earliest opportunity to make a statement on this matter and I have today lodged a Parlimentary Question to him on this matter and await his reply.
