Parking Problems At Roscommon Co Hospital At Crisis Point

The situation with regard to parking at Roscommon County Hospital for patients and staff has now reached crisis point and I am calling on the HSE to provide adequate parking facilities at the hospital immediately and as a matter of urgency. In recent weeks staff at the hospital have been told to park outside Dr Hyde Park GAA grounds to avoid congestion at the hospital. There are fewer and fewer parking places for patients and staff to park at the hospital and it is leading to problems on a daily basis. Local residents are not happy either as the reduced amount of parking space means that cars are being parked illegally in close proximity to the hospital. Staff at the hospital are pointing out that the car park at Dr Hyde Park GAA grounds is unsuitable as there are many events there on an ongoing basis such as the Cul GAA Summer camps, GAA games which are held during the week, weekly bingo and other events. There are also funerals at the nearby St Coman’s Cemetery, which frequently involves many cars needing car parking in that area as well. I have drafted a letter to the Hospital Group today asking them to address this matter immediately and I will be following it up this week
