The news that almost 8 million Euro in funding has been approved to construct a new Rehabilitation Unit at Roscommon County Hospital is very welcome. The facility will provide an essential service as it will work in conjunction with the National Rehabilitation Unit in Dun Laoghire. To have a Rehabilitation Unit in the West will be a big asset to the patients and their families. The employment that will be created during construction and when it is operational will be a boost locally also. While welcoming this good news it has to be pointed out that the announcement comes in the same week when a respected local consultant has complained once again about ambulance response times and local health services in general. While news of the new unit at Roscommon County Hospital is welcome much work needs to be done with regard to health services and mental health services locally as I have been pointing out since I have been elected and I will be continuing to highlight these serious issues with Minister Varadkar and the HSE.
