Plans by the Cork based charity, Irish Community Rapid Response to provice a rapid response vehichle in the Roscommon area to respond to medical emergencies are very welcome. The charity are providing five such vehicles nationwide and I understand that one of those vehicles will be in the Roscommon area. The charity vehicles are staffed by fully trained GP’s on a voluntary basis.
The plans for the Roscommon vehicle will be launched later this month and although it will be very welcome the HSE still have a responsibility to ensure that there is adequate ambulance and paramedic cover in this area. This new service is not an ambulance service but will respond to emergenciees and anything that might result in lives being saved must be welcomed.
