I have today called on Minster Alan Kelly to make a public statement on the situation in South Roscommon where there are proposals to re locate a large area of the county into county Westmeath.
We saw the huge opposition there is to this measure in County Roscommon at the public meeting last Monday and I am today calling on Minister Alan Kelly to make a public statement on the matter so the people of the county know where the Government stand on this issue. This proposal cannot be allowed to proceed and as a public representative I will fight tooth and nail to ensure that it does not become a reality. The people of South Roscommon and the local authority deserve better than to be treated in this way with this opportunistic and outrageous proposal. Minister Kelly can calm the fears of people in Roscommon by announcing that the Government are abandoning these plans immediately. I await to hear what Minister Kelly has to say on this matter and I will be raising it in the Dail at my earliest opportunity next week.
