Minister Finian McGrath Visits Aras Attracta

By November 21, 2016No Comments

Finian McGrath, Minister for State with Special responsibility for Disabilities was in Swinford on Wednesday last and visited Áras Attracta, which is a residential respite and day service for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. Áras Attracta has been the subject of much negative publicity over the past year but despite this it continues to give a caring and supportive service to many vulnerable residents.

I thanked Minister McGrath for making this visit to Áras Attracta and pointed out the importance of members of Government coming to see these services at first hand. “I believe it is important for Ministers to come west of the Shannon to see services with their own eyes and to help and support people with intellectual disabilities.

I also thanked Minister McGrath for his help in ensuring that additional services are being made available at St Michael’s Special School in Castlerea . The staff at St Michael’s provide a wonderful service for all their pupils but it is important that each child gets the services to which they are entitled.
