I welcome the news that Galway City Council has approved plans to develop a 104 million Euro office development at Galway Docks. Hopefully the development will come to fruition quickly as it has huge employment potential for Galway City and the West of Ireland in general.
I spoke about this development eight months ago but was not able to give full details at the time as several major companies have indicated an interest in moving to Galway if such a development were to becaome a reality. There is the potential for 2,600 jobs in this development and the hopefully we can now start planning apartment accommodation for those employees so they can live close by. The site around Galway railway station would be ideal for apartment development and hopefully plans for that site will be announced very soon too.
The employment potential for this developemt in contsruction is huge as well but we must move ahead now with the plans for an outer ring road for Galway City which is absolutely vital. This development would be a huge boost to employment and the West of Ireland and hopefully it will come to fruition as soon as possible and that there are not any major hold ups like we have seen with the proposed development in Athenry.
