HSE Must Fund Home Care Packages

The situation in Roscommon South Leitrim whereby elderly people are being approved for home care packages but are being told that they cannot access those services due to lack of funding needs to be addressed by the HSE and the Minister as a mater of urgency. It’s like telling someone that they are entitled to a Social Welfare payment but they can’t have it because there is no money in the kitty. The Minister is constantly complaining that there are too many people taking up hospital beds who should be cared for in their own homes and here is an opportunity to do exactly that, but people who qualify are being told that there is no funding. It just doesn’t make any sense. I am calling on the HSE and the Minister to review the funding of these home care packages immediately.
