Flooding Problems Still A Major Issue

By February 26, 2016No Comments

Last week I met the people in the ESB who control the water levels on the Shannon along with the Flood Relief Group from the Carrick on Shannon area. We pointed out the problems associated with Lough Allen when the water levels are high. The people in Carrick on Shannon have done detailed research on the whole flood risk issue in the Carrick on Shannon and surrounding areas and how to alleviate flooding. We are now going to meet with the OPW in this matter as soon as possibleThe flooding issue has gone off the news agenda and it has to be kept high on everyone’s priority list as it is still a major issue.
I also attended the meeting/protest on flooding in Athlone on Saturday and I met people there from all over the country and the message from that meeting was clear. This issue has to be solved now and Governments cannot duck and dive any more. Whatever resources need to be spent on solving this very serious problem must be provided.
