Flood Relief Meetings Held In Roscommon

I have been at meetings today in Castlerea and Roscommon town with the OPW and with consultant engineers (Jacobs) on possible solutions to the flooding problems in each area. I was very disappointed with what I heard in Castlerea. To be honest I heard no real workable solution that made any sense to me and I left wondering what we were paying these consultants for. However I have to say that the situation in Roscommon Town was far more encouraging and I would be confident that with proper consultation, a solution can be found to the flooding problems in the town area. The meeting for the Athleague area will be held next week. I am still of the strong view that drains, streams and rivers have to be kept clean in all areas and it is a strategy that must be put in place as part of an overall solution to our ongoing flooding problems throughout the country.
