It is imperative that the Cuisle Holiday Center, located in Donamon in Co. Roscommon, remains open, according to independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice.
The Roscommon-Galway TD was reacting to the news that the facility is set to close at the end of the month.
Speaking on the matter, he said: “The Cuisle Holiday Center at Donamon Castle must not be allowed to close. It is vital that alternative moves are taken to ensure that the possibility for it to close is taken completely off the table.
“The center provides premium respite to wheelchair users from right across the country. It is renowned for the first-class services which it provides.
“The closure of such a facility would be a huge blow for both wheelchair users and their families.
“It would also have a big impact on the local community and tourism in the area.
“This is not even to mention the staff in the center who would be left scrambling to find new employment, with just weeks left until Christmas.
“If additional funding is required to carry out essential works in order to keep the center open, then all local politicians must pull together and lobby the relevant Government departments in order to secure those funds.
“There is support there to keep the center open and all of the stakeholders now need to come together to bring this matter to an alternative ending, rather than closing the doors for the final time,” Fitzmaurice concluded.
