I want to welcome the news that people building once off houses or extending their homes in rural areas will see their costs reduced substantially following the announcement of new building regulations, The new regulations will come into force on September 1st and will offer people who are building their own homes or working on extensions the choice of opting out of statutory certification.
This is an issue that I have been working hard on since last December and the new regulations could mean a saving of 7,000 to 8,000 Euro for people building their own houses. The Government have seen sense on this issue and this is certainly a step in the right direction and anything that will aid people to get started has to be welcomed. There are many other issues in this area that I am working on and will continue to do so.
