The proposed food hub for Castlerea is an excellent project and one that deserves to be supported and I will be doing everything I can to ensure that it is a success.
I congratulate Benny O’Connell and others who have got the project this far and people will be able to book the hub and produce their product, label it and have it tested too. Hopefully the production of these products is what will follow. This will be a huge boost to people in the local area who want to get into the food production business but who cannot afford the capital costs of setting up a business. I also congratulate Roscommon County Council, Roscommon Leader and Castlerea Enterprise for their support for the project thus far.
Another part of this exciting new idea will be the training aspect where there will be capacity to train 16 chefs at the facility and hopefully that process can get underway soon. This is an excellent example of communities in rural Ireland supporting themselves and this project deserves all the support that it can from state agencies local and national and I will be working hard along with my colleagues on it’s behalf into the future to ensure it is a success.
