Bonus Payments To Central Bank Staff A Farce

By November 27, 2015No Comments

The news that 30 staff at the Central Bank are to receive bonus payments of 20,000 Euro and over in some cases, is another indication that the more things change the more they stay the same in this country. Have we learned nothing from what happened in the economic collapse that will see many generations paying for the greedy mistakes made by bankers in the recent past? The excuse being trotted out by the Central Bank is that they have to make these payments to prevent top level staff leaving. What a load of rubbish. I myself am aware of several highly trained and highly qualified young Irish people who would be well able to fill the roles of these fat cats without the need for bonus payments. It is extraordinary that the agency that is charged with the oversight of the country’s banking industry is now part of a bonus culture which is one of the very reasons the banks collapsed in the first place. If it wasn’t so serious it would be the biggest joke of the year. How are the commercial banks expected to toe the line when the Central Bank is acting in this way? It is time that the Minister for Finance call in the Governor of the Central Bank and put a stop to this madness. Is it any wonder that people are so angry with the banking industry in general? This is a disgrace and a depressing piece of news to receive. I would have thought that the Central Bank would have been above this kind of underhand carry on. There are hundreds of thousands of workers who have not been awarded any increase in their wages in recent years, and then they read today about these bankers who are getting 20,000 Euro in bonus payments. It is a farce.
