Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice has welcomed the news that 2.8km of old water mains from Ballaghadeereen to the Old Lung River Bridge, along the L1244, in Tibohine, Co. Roscommon, are set to be replaced.
The works will be carried out by Irish Water who will be working in partnership with Roscommon County Council.
Speaking in the wake of the announcement, Fitzmaurice said: “This is a very welcome development, particularly for those living in the area.
“I have liaised with engineers in Irish Water and Roscommon County Council in the past and I am delighted to see that the works will be going ahead.
“The people using this service will no longer have to worry about pipes bursting and supply disruptions, which were all to frequent given the age and condition of the pipes.
“This project, along with the replacing of 1.9km of old water mains along the L1244 in Tibohine, from the Lung River Bridge to Michael Cooney & Sons Homevalue, will be a significant boost to the local residents and businesses.
“While there will be some planned outages to facilitate the work, residents will be happy to have a more reliable service when works are completed by November,” he concluded.
