The current self-indulgent civil war within the Green Party casts real questions over their capacity for Government, independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice has warned.<\/p>\n

The Roscommon-Galway TD said: \u201cThe scenario where, in the middle of a battle against a pandemic, the Greens are fighting over a Seanad seat is deeply concerning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are huge gathering crises in health, housing, agriculture, forestry and in our non-existent Just Transition \u2013 as well as in the overall morale of the people of Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis makes the antics of the Greens all the more astonishing.<\/p>\n

\u201cFaith in the capacity of the party to govern effectively in the people\u2019s interest has collapsed. They are a party on political death row under a warrant signed by the voters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe leader is not in control of his party and this absence is poised to seriously impact on the stability of the entire government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Taoiseach and Tanaiste have fundamental decisions to make about the future of our country and our people. These decisions require a stable and focused government.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this to happen, Minister Eamon Ryan must take control of his party. The issues facing the country are far too serious for us to entertain the childish antics of the Greens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is especially the case in rural Ireland where the willingness of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to abandon rural Ireland to the Greens for political expediency is backfiring badly.<\/p>\n

\u201cRural Ireland is not going to put up with being sacrificed to keep the Greens happy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Ryan cannot get control of his party, then the government will have to make fundamental decisions about whom it seeks support from.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a stable political coalition. It is instead becoming increasingly evident that Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are now tethered to a sinking sink that may bring them all down.<\/p>\n

\u201cRural Ireland has already paid too high a price to keep the Greens in power,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
